The first person I met in Big Sky was you
at the old Hungry Moose
I bought a bottle of 1997 Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon
and a package of Q-Tips
you said, what an interesting purchase
it was an interesting purchase
but it was what I needed
in fact I think I
made the same purchase
a different time
Callie told me this as we had dinner
at the Peaks where she works
it was the night of Howie’s junior prom
and the kids started their night
by skiing down Tippy’s Tumble
in their tuxedos and dresses
parents lined up
outside
by the red carpet
it was snowing
Howie skied with a black umbrella
wearing his white tux with a baby blue vest
it was too cold for me to go outside
I put my power chair in the corner
by a window
one by one parents came by
to say hi to me
it was very loud
and my voice was very soft
but I kept a smile on
as I saw a lot of people I haven’t seen in a long time
my close friends kept
showing concern for me
wondering if I was cold
and wanting to move me once the Grand March was over
between all the
hellos
all the friends concerns
and all the beautiful young prom couples
I was exhausted
and needed a toilet
three friends and Jackie escorted me to the health club
where I was man handled onto a toilet
my power chair got knocked around
and so did I
but I had success
and was now ready for dinner
Dan and Denise, Barbara and Taylor, Jackie and I
three sets of parents of juniors
sat for an after hours dinner at the Peaks
we were the only ones there
Callie bought us a bottle of Bergstrom Bergstrom Cumberland
2009 Pinot Noir
it was absolutely delicious
for dinner I had a greek salad and lamb sliders minus the
bread
Callie insisted on sitting with us and feeding me
Callie made a toast to me
the table made a toast to the beautiful evening
